Most problems with patios, driveways, and paving are caused by poor preparation below the surface. Slabs that sink or rock, water that will not drain away, and mortar joints that crumble after a couple of winters are almost always the result of work that was rushed at the groundwork stage.
The most common faults are a sub-base that is too thin or has not been properly compacted, no fall built into the surface so that water cannot run away, and slabs laid on dabs of mortar rather than a full bed. Work done this way is quicker and cheaper, and it looks the same on the day it is finished, but it does not last.
We design and build our gardens ourselves, so the groundwork is done properly and the finished garden lasts. We are always happy to explain how we build.
